Welcome to the Lodge

The hustle and bustle of everyday life will melt away as you enter the comfortable and peaceful surroundings of our lodge.

All major hunting expeditions start at the lodge. It can accommodate your hunting party comfortably, and is equipped with electricity, running water and hot showers. Hot, home-cooked meals provided by our staff will make your stay even more enjoyable.

Know Your Hunting Environment

The Burgeo-Maelpeg Plateau is home to a diverse range of geographical features that will make your hunt both enjoyable and challenging. Barren and low-lying hills is the country favoured by the woodland caribou. Stands and forests of spruce and fir trees are ideally suited for moose and black bear. Muskeg and swamp areas are always prime places for watering holes for all three species.

This melding of barrens, muskeg and forest means that you can expect to see all three big game species at any time.

On - Site Transportation

On-site transportation is provided by 2 ARGOs. These hardy vehicles are ideally suited to get through the roughest terrain in the area, yet still be able to accommodate a guide, hunter and their trophy hunt.

The ARGOs insure that you are maximizing your hunting time - by getting you to and from the prime hunting areas with little fuss. Also, when you successfully completed your hunt - you don't have to worry about transporting your trophy from the hunting grounds to Spruce Pond Lodge.

We want to make your hunting trip hassle free.

Where are we?

Located in the central Newfoundland region, upon the Burgeo/Maelpeg plateau, Spruce Pond sits astride a wonderful area of healthy animal populations. The area itself is sparsely populated - with the nearest community over 100 km away.

Traditional woodland caribou migrational patterns travel right into the Spruce Pond area - making it ideal for the fall caribou hunt. Coupled with the robust moose and black bear populations - and you have one of hunting's best kept secrets.

Travel to and from Spruce Pond Lodge is generally by air, and all major airports in the area are accessible from all major airports of the Eastern United States and Midwest within 1 days journey.

If you fly into Newfoundland via the Stephenville or Deer Lake airports, ground transportation will be provided to a helicopter base where you will be flown into Spruce Pond Lodge. Hunters travelling the Marine Atlantic ferry to Port aux Basques will take approximately 2 1/2 hours from the ferry terminal to the helicopter base at Peter Stride's Lake on the Burgeo highway.
